The “Shadowing” program was designed by Node institute to complement career counselling for students, with respects to their individual needs and their conscious choice of Medical Schools. Participation is offered to students on their junior and sophomore years in Highschool (1st and 2nd Class of Greek Lykeion accordingly) that are considering pursuing a career in the medical field and want to familiarize themselves with it in action.
The program is carried out in HYGEIA hospital 6 weeks per year. Students are split into small groups and become the “shadow” of a specific doctor and their team for one week, following them throughout their daily tasks within all hospital grounds.
This specifically includes:
– Interactive conversation regarding the path and the choices that a doctor In Greece and abroad should face and follow
– Observation of clinical practice of both internal medicine and surgical specialties (rounds, outpatients department, operating theaters)
– Clarification of clinical decision making and patient based clinical approach techniques
– Debates on the real aspects of the medical science and the meaning of contributing to society through this field
– Hands-on exercises in laparoscopic and robotic surgery simulators at NODE’S Simulation Center and ISLE Academy.
Participation in the program is offered free of charge, as are all of NoDE’s educational programs.

1st week: 17/06- 21/06/2024
2nd week: 24/06- 28/06/2024
Summer period:
3rd week: 01/07-05/07/2024
4th week: 08/07-12/07/2024
Each student can apply for the program through our platform, by completing the participation form, up to a month before the beginning of the period they are interested in. Updates on acceptance status are shared through a confirmation letter via each student’s parents’ email. The rule we choose to follow is that the first to apply will be the first to have their spot granted.
NoDE’s vision for “Shadowing” is that it shall serve as a bridge of communication for these aspiring junior doctors linking them with medical students, training and trained doctors around the world, offered by the interaction between them throughout the program.
