Ioannis Balogiannis, MD, PhD, graduated from the Medical School of the University of St. Petersburg in Russia (1999) with a grade of Excellent. He obtained the title of specialty in General Surgery at the Surgical Department in the University Hospital of Larissa (2009). After his specialty, he was trained in Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic Surgery (2009) at Hammersmith Hospital, London, UK (Head: Prof. N. Habib). Subsequently, he was trained in Colon and Rectal Diseases (2012-2013) at the Royal Marsden Hospital/ Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London UK (Head: Prof. P. Tekkis).
He worked as a Consultant at the Surgical Department in the University Hospital of Larissa (2011-2018). In 2018, he was elected to the position of Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Thessaly where today, he serves as an Associate Professor of Surgery. He is a member, among others, of the European Society of Coloproctology, the Hellenic Surgical Society, the Society for the Study of Digestive Cancers and the Hellenic Society of Coloproctology. He teaches in the Master’s Programs of the University of Thessaly and EKPA with topics in Colorectal Diseases.
He is the author of more than 100 published studies in prestigious international journals with a high impact factor
